Shopify Development

Shopify development for stores that convert.

Shopify development for brands worldwide. Custom themes, faster storefronts, and the app and checkout work that turns a launched store into one that actually sells.

Shopify development is the design, build, and customisation of stores on Shopify: theme development, app integration, checkout and conversion work, and the data structure behind products and collections. Shopify handles hosting, security, and payments for you, which removes a large class of problems and introduces its own constraints. Logical Dot Tech builds and improves Shopify stores for brands worldwide, working within those constraints deliberately rather than fighting them with apps that slow the storefront down.

What is Shopify development?

Shopify development is the work of building and customising an online store on Shopify. It covers theme development in Shopify Liquid templating language, product and collection structure, app selection and integration, checkout customisation, and the performance and SEO work that decides how the store actually performs once it is live.

Because Shopify is a hosted platform, you are not responsible for servers, security patching, or PCI compliance. The trade-off is that some things are fixed by the platform, so good Shopify development is largely about knowing which constraints are real and which are simply how the default theme happens to work.

Why Shopify stores get slow

Shopify hosting is fast. Most slow Shopify stores are slow because of what has been added on top of it, and the cause is nearly always the same: apps that each inject scripts into every page whether that page uses them or not.

  • App accumulation: ten apps installed, three actually used, all still loading.
  • Uninstalled app leftovers: code left in the theme after the app is gone.
  • Oversized images: huge product photos served without resizing.
  • Heavy sliders and effects: carousels and animations that cost more than they earn.
  • Unused theme features: multipurpose themes loading code for sections you never enabled.

Shopify SEO is different

Shopify does not work like WordPress, and SEO advice written for WordPress often does not apply. Meta titles and descriptions live in reserved fields, the URL structure for products and collections is partly fixed, and the theme controls the structured data rather than a plugin.

The practical consequences matter. Products reachable through more than one collection path can create duplicate URLs, so canonical handling has to be correct. Collection pages need real content to rank rather than being bare product grids. Product schema comes from the theme, so it is only as good as whoever built it.

Shopify vs WooCommerce

Both are good platforms and the right choice depends on your business, not on which is objectively better.

Good to know

Common questions.

Ask us anything →

Do I need a custom Shopify theme?

Not always. A well-chosen premium theme customised properly is enough for many stores and costs less. A custom theme is worth it when your brand or selling flow does not fit an existing theme, or when the theme you are on has become the reason the store is slow. We will tell you which applies rather than defaulting to the larger project.

Can you make my Shopify store faster?

Usually, yes, and often significantly. The most common wins are auditing apps and removing the ones not earning their keep, clearing leftover code from uninstalled apps, resizing images properly, and trimming unused theme features. We measure before and after so the improvement is a number, not a claim.

Can you migrate my store from WooCommerce to Shopify?

Yes. Products, variants, customers, and order history transfer, and the critical part is URL mapping with 301 redirects so search rankings survive the move. We plan the redirect map before migrating and monitor search performance afterwards to catch anything that slips.

Will I be locked into Shopify?

Partly, and it is worth being honest about it. Your products, customers, and orders export cleanly, but theme code is written in Shopify Liquid and does not transfer to another platform. That is the trade for not managing hosting and security yourself. It is a reasonable trade for most stores, but it is a real one.

How many apps should I install?

As few as will do the job. Every app adds cost and usually adds page weight. Where an app duplicates something a small amount of theme code handles, we build it into the theme instead. We audit existing app stacks regularly and often find several that can be removed with no loss.

Can you customise the Shopify checkout?

Within what your plan allows. Shopify restricts checkout customisation on standard plans, with more control available on Shopify Plus. We will tell you honestly what is possible on your current plan before scoping the work, rather than promising something the platform will not permit.

Do you work with international Shopify stores?

Yes. Most of our ecommerce work is for international brands. We set up multi-currency pricing, market-specific domains where useful, and payment methods appropriate to where your customers actually are, across the US, UK, Canada, Australia, the Gulf, and India.
