Website Maintenance

Your website, kept up to date and safe every month.

We update WordPress, plugins and themes safely, keep backups you can restore, watch for downtime and security problems, and make your small edits. One fixed monthly plan, agreed in writing.

Short answer

Website maintenance keeps a site secure and working after launch. Each month we back up the site, update WordPress, plugins and themes and test the important pages afterwards, check for malware and downtime, remove risky plugins and make your small edits, then send a short report. New features and redesigns are priced separately.

Website maintenance is the regular work that keeps a site secure, working and current after launch: software updates, backups, uptime and security monitoring, fixing what breaks, and small content changes. Most WordPress problems we are asked to fix come from sites that were built well and then left alone. A maintenance plan catches those problems early, before a customer finds a broken form or Google finds a hacked page.

Why does a website need maintenance?

Because the software it runs on keeps changing, and attackers move fast. Patchstack's State of WordPress Security in 2026 report counted 11,334 new vulnerabilities in the WordPress ecosystem in 2025, 42% more than in 2024. 91% were in plugins and 9% in themes. 46% did not get a fix from the developer in time for public disclosure, and for heavily targeted vulnerabilities the weighted median time to first exploit was 5 hours.

In plain words: a plugin you installed once can become the way in, and the fix, when there is one, needs to go on quickly. That is the core of maintenance.

What we do every month

The routine is the same on every site, and you get a short report at the end of each month.

  • Backups first: a full backup before any update, plus regular scheduled backups stored away from your server.
  • Updates: WordPress core, plugins and themes, checked on the live site afterwards, with the most important pages and forms tested.
  • Plugin review: unused or abandoned plugins removed, and ones with known security problems replaced.
  • Security: malware scans, admin user checks and login protection.
  • Uptime: monitoring with alerts, and the cause of any downtime found and fixed.
  • Edits: your small content changes, within the hours in the plan.

What a maintenance plan does not cover

New pages, new features and redesigns are scoped and priced separately, so the plan stays predictable. If a site needs a rebuild rather than care, we say so and explain why; our website redesign checklist covers how to do one without losing Google traffic.

Which sites do you maintain?

Mostly WordPress and WooCommerce, including sites we did not build. For Shopify stores, Shopify handles the platform updates, so the work is on apps, theme changes, speed and content.

Good to know

Common questions.

Ask us anything →

How much does website maintenance cost?

It depends on the size of the site, how many plugins it runs, whether it is a store, and how many edits you need each month. After a free call we send a written monthly price.

Do you maintain sites you did not build?

Yes. We start with a check of the site, its plugins and hosting, fix anything urgent, and then move it onto the monthly routine.

What happens if an update breaks the site?

We take a backup before every update, so we can roll back quickly, then find the plugin or theme that caused the problem and fix or replace it.

Can you clean up a hacked WordPress site?

Yes. We remove the malware, close the way in, change passwords and keys, and request a review from Google if it flagged the site. Maintenance afterwards is how you keep it from happening again.

Is hosting included?

Not by default. Your hosting stays in your name. We can help you pick or move hosting, and we include the hosting renewal price in our advice so there are no surprises in year two.

How quickly do you respond?

Downtime and security problems are handled first. Routine edits are done within the time agreed in your plan.
